High voltage penetrators
Benestad started developing glass/ceramic-to-metal sealed power penetrators in the early nineties. Since then, we have developed penetrator systems for a range of currents- and voltage levels. Today, we have a large portfolio of power penetrators that we are currently expanding with a connector portfolio.
Our power penetrators in glass-to-metal sealing technology offer cutting edge advantages:
- Hermetically sealed barrier, no diffusion of gas or liquids
- Unique high pressure/high temperature properties
- Partial discharge tolerant
Benestad’s power penetrators have a long track record with zero failures at high pressures and in harsh environments. As an example, they are currently used at the Shell Stones field at 2927 meters, one of the world’s deepest oil and gas fields.

Our latest development is the compact Procyon penetrator which is rated to 6/10(12) kV and 630 A. It is qualified to depths of 4000 meters and 17 500 psi inboard pressure. This is the only penetrator at this rating in the world. It has reduced size, increased power efficiency and comes at a significantly lower cost than our previous designs.

We are currently developing 66 kV wet mate connectors and penetrators for offshore wind developments and other subsea applications. We have designed a flexible termination system allowing for cable conductor sizes from 95-1000 mm2. We also have expertise when it comes to design involving ATEX-requirements.
